Brits putting off bunion correction due to tight budgets

According to UK lifestyle website Female First, there appears to be a growing trend of people forgoing medical care – such as bunion treatment, chiropractic care and vision correction – due to lower household budgets.

The website reported that since certain physical issues can be costly and yet don’t pose an immediate threat, it’s easy for people to put off treatment. In fact, a USA Today article reported that bunion surgery can cost up to $4,000 in the U.S., not taking into account insurance coverage.

“Delaying health care treatment is tempting when budgets are so tight, but neglecting your health is potentially more expensive and dangerous in the long run as you can increase both the severity of the problems you face and the cost of the treatment you need,” says Russ Piper, Chief Executive of Sovereign Health Care, quoted by Female First.

While back and eye issues require medical attention, individuals may be able to ease their bunion pain without expensive podiatry bills by using bunion splints or orthotics.
